SHOULD WE PLAY MORE MINCRAFT!!!

Image result for minecraftMinecraft is a great game. So many people around the world play minecraft and they LLLLLLLLLOOOOOOOOOOVVVVVVVVVEEEEEEEEE it and we should play more of it here are some reasons why.
Firstly, it is a great learning game.
It can teach you how to spell, read and what you can make things out of for example: you make a fishing rod out of three sticks and two pieces of string and you can make wood planks out of one piece of log and you use six iron and one stick. I believe minecraft is a great learning game.

Image result for Minecraft architectureFurthermore, it can help with jobs but one specifically, being an  architect. Mineraft is a great learning tool for architecture mainly because you can basically build anything. For example------------------------------------------------------------->
You could even fill in a ravine. You could build a treehouse, farm, church, family house, a giant monster, an underground bunker to survive a war or even a simple hut. I believe it can bring out your imagination and creativity and it builds basic skills that can help you be an architect.
Image result for minecraft official coverThirdly, It is fun in general. Minecraft is just absolutely, incredibly and amazingly fun! As humans it is very important to have fun and can help with you mental health. You can make minigames you can even get mods and get like helicopters, planes, guns and even Pokemon (In the game they are called pixelmon). When you play minecraft you should be having all the fun in the world.
These reasons are why I strongly believe that we should play more minecraft. It is good for learning how to spell and read, it helps with jobs and it is just absolutely fun. Minecraft is an AMAZING game that everyone who plays it will like it. There it is, we should definitely play more minecraft.

THE TOKI POUNAMU FILM FESTIVAL

Toki Pounamu
FILM FESTIVAL
Today the senior school went to the regent
theatre to watch the Toki Pounamu film
festival. The toki pounamu film festival is
where lots of west coast schools make short
2-3 minute films about a certain topic .This
year the topic was ‘our place’. later on lots
of schools on the west coast that have made
films come together and watch through
most of the films.

My personal favourate film of them all was
the Crime Report film. I enjoyed the film
because it was really unique. They have
used lots of cool visual effects, like slo-mo
for when they were chasing the bank robber.
It had really  good transitions. They put a lot
of effort into making this film, it would have
taken them quite a while to get all of that
done.
There was a lot of editing for this film like
having the scene change subtitle ‘meanwhile’.
This is a really good film and a lot of work
has gone into it and there is not much that
they need to improve on but when they are
chasing the robber i think that they could
use less slo-mo and that they could put
some more effort into acting out the scene.
But for this being their first time making
a movie it was really good.

Thank you for reading this film review on

MY DRAWING COLLAGE!!!

We have been learning to make a collage on Google Drawing. We
had to use the explore, mask and arrange tools to get our collage to c
ome together. We had to make a NZ bird and put it into its habitat. It was
a lot of fun and I am really pleased with my bird. Have you ever had a
go at this?

Annimation Fun!!

Today we were learning to do an animation on google slides. We had to use free to use images and we had to change some of the code to make it work. We had to make the animation loop by changing the word false to true inside to code. In the code I also changed the moving part to make it go faster. Hope you enjoyed my animation.

The NZ Weta.

Recently at school we have been learning about mini-beasts and our topic for our first writing was about weta.

Here is my success criteria.

The NZ Weta

What is a Weta?

Weta are native insects/mū to NZ.  The most common weta is the tree weta.  Weta are invertebrates which mean they have no spine. They are also have exoskeletons which means their skeleton is on the outside of their body. All weta are different sizes. A weta breathes through their exoskeleton. They can outway a mouse and possibly a little sparrow.  Wetas ears are on their front legs close to their knees. Only male weta have pincers on the front of their face and the giant weta are the heaviest recorded insects in the whole world.  Weta moult ten times before they are adults.  There are all the facts about the weta body.

Survivability
Weta can be frozen and unfrozen and still survive.  They can grow to any size but if they grow too big they will not be able to breathe. Weta can survive under water for four days.

Where do they live?
Weta live in NZ. Different kinds of weta can live in lots of different kinds of places. The main place that we see weta living in is inside of rotted out logs.  Tree weta live in hollow trees or small holes in trees.  Some weta might live in firewood piles or coal bins.  Tusked weta sometimes burrow down into the ground and the leaves.

Reproducing
All female weta lay eggs. The female weta lay 6-10 eggs at a time and they lay 200 eggs in their whole life.  To lay their eggs they use their ovipositors and stick them into the ground and then they push out the eggs. In spring weta mate and then in autumn they lay their eggs. The eggs stay in the ground for one year.

How Do They  Behave Socially?
Some weta like tree weta live in groups of up to ONE HUNDRED!! But then some other weta live lonely under rotten logs and also some other kinds of weta live alone. Tree weta communicate by scraping their hind legs together.

Their Threats
1080, carbon ammunition and weed sprays are man made threats to some species of weta.  Weed sprays will kill a little amount of the weta that we have in NZ. In the future to look after them we can find other ways to kill pests than using 1080  and try to stop using carbon ammunition all the time(not that we are ALL the time). One of the main threats to weta are humans destroying their habitat. If we want weta to survive we need to look after their habitat.

Writing-Abandoned Places

Our learning goals are to:
-write a description, using powerful words and phrases
-include some Te Reo Māori
-carefully check that our sentences make sense and have correct punctuation and spelling.

Choose one of the above images to prompt a piece of descriptive writing
Its was the year of 3094 and everything was peaceful and calm in the city until the Brotherhood threatened to drop a nuke on our innocent people. I looked up and there was a big red rough blimp that said the Brotherhood rules you all. After years of preparing they threatened us once more and said “OOOHHHHHH what does this button do.” And then BBBBBBBOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOPPPPPPPPP.
This was the end we all thought.
Everyone was running around and screaming help. I had to help them. I ran as fast as I could to them and pushed them into the safety bunker. The nuke came down and it came down hard. During the explosion I was blinded. After the light was gone I could see again but the only thing I could see was  dark, gloomy and bland. The Brotherhood was coming so I hid inside the building closest to me.

Inside it was rough and rocky and smelt like rats…                          The Brotherhood were playing music, freaky music. Like music that would have been from the movie IT. They were coming in close on the two huge grey rocky buildings. The brotherhood found me.

They shot and shot but they missed and
they made a rocky hole in the wall that had a ring of fiery flames around that edge of the hole. I looked through the hole in the rocky wall and said, “Holy crap.” I turned around and shot and shot. I hit them all and the war was won or so we thought…

My Marae Recount

My Marae Experience

On the first and second of May me and my class went for a class trip with room 5 to the Arahura Marae. We were studying the Marae. We were going there for our camp and to learn about our local marae. I am going to be telling you about a few things that we did at the marae. First I’m Going to tell you about the powhiri Process. Then second I will tell you about the food/kai and last but not least I will tell you about the wharenui and what it looked like and how cool it was.

The powhiri
The first thing we did at the marae was have the powhiri process. At first I was a bit Nervous because I thought there would be lots of people there but there wasn't, there was only four people there.  Once I realised it was only four people there I wasn't that nervous. While we were at the gate we practised the waiata. After we practised the waiata the women did the karanga and we got called into the marae. Then we took our shoes off and the boys went into the marae and we waited for the girls to come before we sat down. After the girls came in we all sat down and then the men gave their speeches and we gave a gift to the tangata whenua/host(which was an envelope with money in it). It was a little hard not to laugh when everything went quiet (or at least a tiny giggle). I think I did one TINY giggle and a few others as well because this was a new experience.

The Kai

Another fun part or should I say yum part of the trip was the food. I really enjoyed the food/kai. For breakfast there was toast and cereal. I had a few pieces of toast and a little bowl of cornflakes and for morning tea the day before the was an AMAZING amount of food!! There was red velvet cake, pies and ginger slice(I think). They had an AMAZING range of pies. There was potato top pies, beef pies, chicken ect. The pies were SO good and meaty. To be honest I thought the food would have been like maori food or at least close to that. Miriama works really hard in the kitchen to make that amount of food in that amount of time.

Inside the wharenui

Inside of the wharenui was AMAZING!! Inside the marae there was lights on the spine and the ribs/heke. They were so cool!! Then there are the carvings, the best things that are inside of the marae. But the two

carvings that really attracted me were Hikatutae and the defender that made the waves to stop him. One of them had the shape of lake mahinapua carved into it. These two carvings relate to one of the battles that happened at Lake Mahinapua.

Over all I had such a good time. I loved the food. I loved the Inside with all the carvings and the lights. It was an AMAZING experience.

The end

My Marae Writing

Marae Explanation

This is my writing on the marae. I am going to be telling you about the marae and the
powhiri process

The first part of the powhiri process is the wero. They used to do to this to check if the
visitors were enemies or if they came in peace.the wero is like a trial.  They only do A
wero today if its a Special Occasion like a funeral Or a birthday.

The Second part of the powhiri
Is the karanga or the women’s calling. The women’s calling is telling us to come in.
it also tells the hosts who we are.

The third part of the powhiri
Is the whaikorero. the formal speeches given by the men. In the whaikorero
the men pay respect to the dead and the ancestors.  The speeches are mostly about
the ancestor that stands in that area.

The fourth part of the powhiri process is the waiata. The waiata is a song that we
sing after the men are finished with their speeches.

The fifth part of the powhiri is the hongi. The hongi is when you touch noses
with the hosts and the staff of the marae. It is known as the breath of life. It is also
a symbol of friendship and peace.

The sixth part of the powhiri is the gift of kai/food. After we hongi we have some
kai/food to end the sacred time and move in to time of noa/normal.

Kawa of care

We have been learning to follow the kawa of care which tells us how to look after our devices and be cyber smart. We had to chose three rules to write about.  Down below is a link to my project scratch.

You might need to go see inside  if it does not work.

The marae

 The Marae

The main features of the marae are:

  • The head/Upoko

  • Arms/maihi

  • Hands/Raparapa

  • Spine/Tahuhu

  • heart/Poutokomanawa

  • ribs/heke

The marae represents an ancestor that has passed away.  The merae is like a
memorial place where an ancestor lies. The pictures in the marae represent ancestor and they tell
stories as well as the carvings in the marae. A marae is like a history book without marae we would
forget some of the maori ancestors and chefs.

A marae is also a place where you can stay if a natural disaster happens. Thats what happened in the
Kaikoura earthquake there was a marae that was still standing perfectly. So the people that ran the
marae opened up the doors and let the people that did not have houses or anywhere else to stay in
there marae and stay there for a while until they had a place to stay.

The parts of the marae.
On a marae there are multiple parts the represent parts of a human body.
The head/upoko is right at the top point of the roof. Down the front are the arms/maihi. At the end
of the arms ar the hands/raparapa.  Along the top of the roof is the spine/tahuhu when you walk in
if you look up there are the ribs/heke they are the rafters. Inside there is also the heart/poutokomanawa.
